Shoof, I recommend against using home replacement apps. They tend to slow the system down and can be problematic, as you are seeing.
After you root, you can choose from many themes and ROMs to customize your phone the way you want. These themes do not add an extra layer on the system, but replace the home app altogether.

I should edit it to say touch me to unlock. LOL

Seriously tho, its the lockscreen included with the official 1.6/expansion pack/hero theme.

And I might add, it is a damn fast and stable rom as well. If he included the usb tether CM has I would never change. Wireless thether works, but my laptop likes to be an asshole sometimes and decide not to find my network. PDAnet works good, but I won't pay for it past the trial time. True, I could get it if I wanted it, but being included is just that much F'n better!

Just go slow shoof and follow that tutorial that I posted for you and you should be good to go. It's not hard really. You just can't get in a rush the first time through. Print it off and make a checklist out of it. Check off each step as you complete it so you know you aren't getting ahead of yourself.

KnowFear is right. I used a checklist the first time and it worked out fine. It takes much more time to research it and dl the files needed than acutally rooting your phone. Use the checklist to make sure you have all the right files and set aside enough time to go at your own pace.
Oh Yeah, being stone cold sober when you do it is not a bad idea either, at least if helped me. LOL

Yes. Thats what the guide tells you. Your sd card should look like this.

1 thing I would point out, and this is only based on personal use, I would change that guide from the hardSPL to Haykuro's "danger" SPL. But again, this is only if you want to check out the latest Hero/Blur/Sense ROMS.

To be honest id probably only do it once.

Main reasons for Rooting would be for apps2sd and speed up the phone a bit.

saying that once i get it done ill probably do it more.

Same for me, i want to root...but dont want to risk f***ing my phone, its my only phone atm and i need it for work. Id be sooooo screwed if it broke. We should mak a disclaimer saying we are not responsible for Phones that brake due to the forum's advise.

It always good to watch your ass Smile
