Question about install Empty
PostSubject: Question about install   Question about install I_icon_minitimeMon Feb 01, 2010 7:42 pm

I have a 16gb card in my phone now.. all that is on there is a few games , a couple of videos and some songs. It says i have 13,715mb available but when i go to install any of the games that you have posted, it says Out of Space. Free up some space on your phone and try again.... is 13,715mb not enough space for these games??? Thanks all!

You need to save the games to your SD card and open them to your phone?

To install the games you need to save the .apk file into a file on your sd card

To access the sd card, plug your phone into your computer and select "mount" when prompted. This will open up your sd card onto your computer.

Simply drag and drop the files (.apk) and place them in a folder (e.g. applications)

You will then need a file manager from the Android market (OI file manager and Astro will do and are free)

Once you have installed the File manager, you simply open the file manager up, click applications, find the game you want to install and select it to install to your phone.

Be sure to unmount your phone from your computer but selecting when prompted. Incorrect mounting can cause problems for your sd card.

I have a file manager installed ( Linda File Manager) and i do mount the phone and drag it over to downloads folder. I click on the application going through the file manager but it does not install it to the SD card, it tries only the internal memory. I called T-Mobile and they told me that I could not save apps to my SD card.. does that sound right to you? Doesn't to me but it seems as though i cannot get it to work. I only have about 6 apps loaded and now no more will fit.. what good is it to have a 16gb card if you can't even use the space. They said the space could be used for pictures and music files but not for apps... any more info you can give me would be of great help!! Thank you again for all your time!

Yeah, you cant actually install your apps from your sd card (root access enables this)

But you need to place the apk file in your folder on the sd card and open it through Linda.

Maybe try clearing out your phone memory and trying again?

How do I clear out my phone memory without losing everything?

I do open the apk file through Linda..

Ahh, its so agrivating! Why did I waste my money on a 16gb card when I can't even load apps to it.. Sad

basically unless you root your G1, you cannot save your apps to your SD Card. (it was on Google's Road Map, but has not been done yet)
anyways, if you have had your G1 for a while, and have loaded up a ton of apps, start by removing apps you don't use. then go into your Browser, and clear out the Browser cache (when in the browser, hit menu, more, settings, clear cache, clear history, clear cookies, clear form data)
if you use the browser a lot, this can clear up a good chunk of space for apps.

No, I have only had the G1 for about 2 weeks.. I am still running at firmware 1.1 and have been trying to have them upgrade me to 1.6 though i hear a 2.1 or 2.0 is coming this month sometime.. I am behind the times. I will try the browser clear as you suggested. Thanks for the walkthrough!! I am a newbie but love the android system.. had a blackberry for 2 years before this.

let us know if you need anything. you should be getting your 1.6 update soon, if not, you can always manually upgrade it, which is very easy. or since you are on 1.1, you could root your phone with 1 click, and put all your apps on your sdcard (on my old G1 i had about 200 apps on mine.

I haven't gotten around to rooting my MT3G, but i have some free time today, so i might just do it.

in any case, we are here to help, so please just ask.

Thank you very much! How would I root my phone and what does that mean? could I get all the apps you have posted put on my sdcard? You have been so helpful. Thanks again for everything. Why did you change from the G1?
